Before we toot our own horn, here is what others say about Uptown Lowdown Jazz. . . They were OUTSTANDING!! Residents loved the music and danced in the isles. My mom, who was celebrating her 90th B-day...loved their performance. They played much longer than booked. We will have to book them again...they were a hit!! Barbara - Medford, OR Nov 2009 "Uptown Lowdown Jazz was terrific! We hired them to perform at our annual Client Economic Outlook Seminar where we had 450 clients in attendence over two sessions. We are a financial advisory firm with clients generally in their 50s, 60s and 70s. We design our event to be informative as well as entertaining. We also use it to say "thank you" to our clients for their loyalty. We left the musical selection to them and it was perfect. "Sugar Blues" and "Pennies from Heaven" were especially great. The group is professional, talented and experienced. I would highly recommend them". Paul - Financial Seminar Nov 2009 "The Uptown Lowdown Jazz were exactly what we needed. They made the party! It wouldn't have been as fun or as festive without them. We had fun dancing to their music, they played songs on request, and when we weren't dancing, they were great background to the party. When they stopped playing for a break, the party was noticeably less fun, so I know that they added a lot to the atmosphere. I'd hire them again in a second". Karen - Birthday
party Oct 2009 Fawn - Sep 2009 "Bert and the band
did an outstanding job at our wedding. the music was perfect and the band was
very reasonable in the flow of things. i would highly recommend them to anyone
interested in a jazz band for any event". "They provided excellent music for our wedding reception. They were very accommodating and the music was beautiful. I could not be more happy with their performance." - Laura - Aug 1, 2009 "Uptown Lowdown is absolutely fantastic! They are very talented and really helped to set a wonderful mood and vibe at my wedding. I cannot say enough good things about them. They are consummate professionals and overall nice people. I would absolutely hire them again for future events and would refer them to anyone who is looking for flawless jazz and swing music. "- Ann "Bert - I'm sorry I didn't get over to say
thanks before you packed up and hit the road to home Sunday. Dear Bert Barr - "First of all, congratulations to everyone in Uptown Lowdown JB on receiving the highest audience rating of any band at the 2003 Sonoma County Festival despite not appearing in our audience survey form! I hope all of you had a good time here, and I want to apologize again for our glaring oversight of leaving your band name off the survey. That did not seem to matter to our audience" . . . John Howard Exec Director 2004 Wine Country Vintage Jazz Fest "Can't resist saying this - sheer professionalism is what ULJB is all about." . . . Palmer Taylor - fan "Uptown Lowdown is to traditional jazz what Mozart is to classics. Every note has a purpose, nothing is out of place, and each player is not only strong but has found a balancing point for his or her place in the mix." . . The Spokesman-Review Spokane,WA "One of these days somebody is going to come up with a poll to determine the best 20 Dixieland bands in the land, and in our books, one spot amongst them is already nailed down by Bert Barr's Uptown Lowdown Jazz Band of Seattle" . . . Woody Laughlan, editor, West Coast Rag "I would walk for a mile over broken glass in my bare feet to hear Uptown Lowdown. Their musicianship is stellar, and they are masters of the universe!!!!!!!!!!!!!" . . . Meg Graf - fellow musician Dear Uptown Lowdown Jazz, "Thank you for playing at our wedding celebration last July at Mountain Home Lodge in Leavenworth (and braving the unusually cold evening). We never dreamed we would have live music at our wedding celebration when we first started planning the event. We were absolutely thrilled to find a first rate band for a reasonable, affordable price - thank you! The band absolutely made the reception - the music was incredible - fun, entertaining & perfect for dancing. The songs were timeless - just the sort of ambiance we wanted to set the mood for our wedding. Thank you also to Rose Marie for her help in choosing and playing the ceremony music & accompanying my cousin Valerie in "At Last". We have such great memories of the wedding - thank you again for your contribution to our perfect day." . . . . . Love, Ellie & Cory "Kudos. I have to say this is the ultimate in Dixieland Jazz. Best Regards", W.R. Sparks - fan from Ohio "Speaking of bands seldom mentioned that play wonderfully well, my vote goes to the "Uptown Lowdown Jazz Band" They just performed at the Dixieland Monterey fest. This year's set up was 2 reed players, each a marvel of talent & both played Bass Sax. Cornet, T-bone, Banjo, Drums, piano [ & damn, I can't remember if they had a Tuba. I guess I was too taken with the Reed guys ]. All exceptionally talented. The band played what appeared to be 1/2 "head" arrangements, & 1/2 written arrangements. The counterpoint and flow of ideas was astonishing. Most bands play an ensemble chorus, pass around the solos and then take it out. Not this band. They get into a tune with the first chorus doing amazing things, then focus on the reeds doing more amazing things together. These two guys play like they are engaged in telekinesis. Then the focus goes elsewhere. What a banjo player !! etc. & etc. One of the engaging elements was the piano's turn. After all the fireworks of the rest of the band, the band went silent with only lite rhythm background & the lady just played simple lines that created a calming contrast. Like catching your breath. Gad, did I enjoy this band. I hope you get a chance to hear them". . . . . . . Uptown Swing & Jazz & Uptown "Lite" are satellite groups, conceived after years of performances in every type of venue. As mentioned previously, it became apparent that all businesses and clients don't need the same size band or require the same sound. Uptown Swing & Jazz provides various styles and sounds other than Dixieland and can provide groups from solo piano, duos & trios that have a light, swingy sound to groups that have a hot big band swing sound. In addition to the Ragtime and Dixieland that ULJB is famous for, Uptown Swing & Jazz plays the music well into the next decades with hot Swing and dance standards from the 1930's & 40's.
